Round 1: Engstrom's 64 Lights the Fuse

Season's open. Round 1 went off Thursday April 23 on Dutch 27: Red/White — par 71, Best 2 Net of 4. After a winter of range-mat promises, everyone showed up to find out who actually practiced. Spoiler: mostly nobody.

๐Ÿ† The Winners

๐Ÿฅ‡ Ryan Neitzke + Conrad Engstrom + Dave Thomes — −23

A three-man team that played like four. Conrad Engstrom stole the night — 77 gross, net 64, the lowest net of the opener, two birdies and ten pars off a 13. Ryan Neitzke did Ryan Neitzke things: 77 gross, thirteen pars, four bogeys, and the calm of a man who's done this before. Dave Thomes ground out a 91/74 to fill in the math. Wire to wire.

๐Ÿฅˆ Justin Heitkamp + Jayme Steele + Sam Geraets + Charlie Geraets — −20

Justin Heitkamp posted the low gross of the day — 72 off a 3, four birdies, zero doubles, the cleanest card on the property. Jayme Steele (77/71, three birdies) and Sam Geraets (80/70) kept pace. Charlie Geraets' 96 didn't do the gross any favors, but the net did its job. Three back.

๐Ÿฅ‰ Tate Motschenbacher + Peter Dahl + Barney Miller — −19

Another three-man squad right in it. Peter Dahl — off a 3 — went 74/71 with three birdies, and Tate Motschenbacher chipped in a 69 net. One stroke off second. Brutal way to start a season.

๐Ÿฆ The Birdie Board

  • Justin Heitkamp — 4
  • Jayme Steele — 3
  • Peter Dahl — 3
  • Conrad Engstrom, Sam Geraets, Tate Motschenbacher, Mark Pietig — 2

๐Ÿ”ฅ The Hall of Pain

Jesse Johnson — 107 gross

Five triples-plus, six doubles, two pars. In April. The net 88 read less like a score and more like a witness statement. We respect the commitment to playing all eighteen.

Jason Jackovich — 103 gross, zero pars

Four triples+, five doubles, and not a single par on the card. The 20 handicap mercifully dragged it to 83 net. New season, same Jackovich blow-up reel — and something tells us this won't be its last appearance here.

๐Ÿ“Š The Grinder Award

Joel Clough. 77 gross, thirteen pars, one double, net 73 — and his team still finished dead last. Thirteen pars and nothing to show for it because the other three cards caught fire the wrong way. Golf is a team game, and the team let Joel down. Framed proof that pars don't pay if your partners are allergic to them.

๐Ÿค Heads Up

Round 2 is Thursday May 7 — Dutch White/Blue. Team Points after one round:

  • Conrad Engstrom / Dave Thomes / Ryan Neitzke — 10
  • Charlie Geraets / Jayme Steele / Justin Heitkamp / Sam Geraets — 8

Best eight weeks count toward the season total. One down, nineteen to go. See you Thursday.
